An Introduction [Video]

[So all of this was more than a little confusing. It was...very, very confusing. First, he was given a new friend. Then he was told he was part of some kind of team, and he was going through training, and legitimately, his head was spinning and he did not sign up for this.

The camera flickers on, and the first thing immediately visible is a very exhausted-looking man, who heaves out a sigh before seemingly realizing it's on and putting on a lively grin much unlike the one he had on his face before. He gives a small salute to the camera.]

Yo~! I guess I should introduce myself, being new here, kinda confused, and...kinda having a headache if I'm being fully honest. The name's Matsuno Osomatsu, but any variety of 'Oso', 'Big Brother Oso', 'Osomatsu', 'Charisma Legend', 'Awesome Mirac--' ...I'm getting off track, huh?

[He clears his throat.]

So, um, I guess I'm with you guys now? Me and Snappy are, at least. Little guy's got big jaws!!! It's amazing! I'm kinda afraid I'll lose a hand....whiiiiiiiiich is super intimidating to the normies, am I right, or am I right?

[He fingerguns at the camera while winking. And then he coughs, looking a little tired again. Working at anything is hard for a NEET.]

If anyone has any advice for a newbie to the...um...criminal-ing world, let me know! I mean, it's not like I'm not capable, but there's a lot of nuance, probably. Probably!

It's really no problem, Osomatsu. As your superior, it's my job to help you and the other new grunts adjust to things here.

Hm. What else? The easiest way to get the team to pay for anything is to find a way to explain how you'll use it for crime. For instance, I'm going to explain how you'll be using your street clothes for plainclothes heists in the future. If you want to travel, just say that you'll be stealing Pokemon in that city--and then, you know, actually follow through on it.

[BY THE WAY, speaking of Osomatsu's street clothes, after Oso's done with his training tomorrow, he'll be called to one of the base offices to pick up his package, which is a shopping bag from the Goldenrod department store that has a red hoodie, two pairs of jeans, his tennis shoes, and prepackaged underwear, socks, and plain white shirts. (One package each.)

Also, tucked in on top, a print-out that's basically the paper version of the Rocket joblist here.]

Oh right. Handsome Jack, who you'll hopefully be meeting soon, is the highest ranked import Rocket, our resident Alpha, and the boss of our own little crew here. He expects you to keep your nose clean and yourself out of jail, but if you can do that, you'll do fine with him. He doesn't really assign us missions most of the time--he expects us to figure out our own crimes to pull without handholding from him--but if you need someone to talk to the admins for you, you'll definitely want him. And if you screw up badly, you'll need to talk to him too. Basically, go to Jack for the big things.

And if you need someone to talk to Jack on your behalf, I'm your man.

[Steven grins. He likes being called 'boss.' And he likes this kid too. Not really a kid, he mentally corrects himself. Young man. He's about the age Steven's little sister had been, after all.]

I'm glad to help you, Osomatsu.

And if it also helps, sometimes it's easier to do your first heists as part of a group, so you've got other people to help you out if you get into a pinch. Mine was one that Dirk organized. Dirk's our Beta by the way. You'll meet him soon enough. If you see any orange text on the network, that's him.

Anyway, way back in the winter when there were still just six of us imports, Dirk organized this whole thing for getting fossils from the Pewter Museum. Dirk had us in teams of two and he had me with him, since he was organizing it and I was the biggest newbie around. And it helped a lot just to have someone else with me I could rely on to, well, tell me what the hell to do when things got fraught--and they did a bit. We had to render some security guards unconscious.

I'm hoping to organize a big group heist soon, actually, but it might take a while to figure out when that will fit in everyone's schedules because I know that a bunch of us are going to be busy in the next month and it might not happen until late August. So you might want to see if there's anyone you can partner with before that.

somehow this turned into reminiscing about heists past

It was pretty great. I was a little freaked out at the end, because it was the first time I'd ever had to, ah, make anyone unconscious, but Jack talked me through things after we got back from the heist and helped me get my head on straight and then Dirk checked up on me the next morning. And then proceeded to give me the stink-eye about having mimosas with Jack, but honestly, if you can't have morning alcohol the day after you commit your first act of wanton violence against another person, when can you?

But, you know, aside from things like frowning at day-drinking, Dirk's cool. Weird as hell sometimes, but there's no one better for organizing large scale heists. I'm going to have to pick his brain for the one I'm hoping to pull off later--especially since we've had three or four new people since the last big one he organized and like to get everyone in on it if possible.

Oh, but that one was cool too. Dirk and Jack built a giant robot in the shape of a Lapras together and all of us except Connie got to ride in it to that heist--Connie was busy with challenging the Ecruteak gym then, I think? That's the mission that got Dirk promoted.

But you're definitely right. Something always goes wrong. Even when you plan for it. There was this weird rogue scientist we ran into during the Fossil Heist... [He shakes his head.]

Anyway. I'll be making an announcement about the big one in another day or two. There should definitely be room for you on it, though. It's one of those jobs where the more people that are there the better.

I'll have to dig up Piltdown and God's Mistake for visual reference if I'm telling you about C. Liss, the amazingly muddy idiot scientist. But I will at some point.

What else, what else? Hm. You should a pokemon who has Teleport at some point. It's amazingly useful for getaways, although you'll get sick if you spam it too many times in a row. And for transportation purposes, you should probably challenge the Violet gym and maybe the Ecruteak one too. Definitely Violet though, because that's the one you have to face if you want to get licensed to Fly with your pokemon and that cuts down transportation times by a lot. Luckily, it's also the easiest gym. A couple of us have HMs for Fly--those are the little machines that teach pokemon how to fly with passenger--so once you do get cleared for Flying, just ask one of us. Hell, I think Steve P has a second copy, even.

Steve P being Steve Palchuk, that is. He's one of our younger members at seventeen, although he's a Private too now, and he's very good to have on hand if you need [dumb] muscle. Don't worry. You'll be able to tell the difference between us easily enough. We don't look anything alike, even if we've got the same first name.

Oh yes, it'll take you a few weeks at the very least, even if Tyler gives you one of his reserves.

And in general, it's a good idea to challenge gyms. There's a cash prize which scales upwards with the gym levels and you'll often get useful move TMs and HMs as prizes too. And quite frequently, it'll license you to use special moves outside of battle as well. Not just Flying, but Surfing, Rock Smashing, moving large objects with Strength...

Oh and plus, if you can beat all the gyms in a region, the league will issue you one megastone, which will grant one of you Pokemon a special evolution--although not all Pokemon will have a megastone available. Tyler and I just did that, actually. Connie too just a little before we did. And Dirk's almost to beating all the gyms both here and in Kanto, which means he'll be allowed up Victory Road soon.
