Your Coworker Is Engaged Now

Good morning everyone~! [Carly is looking Very chipper on the Rocket Network.]

The holidays are just around the corner, but before we get excited about that, I wanted to get excited about something even better! Something even more lasting..! Though we should definitely get pretty excited about the holidays if you know what I'm saying hehehe...

Ahem. [Deep breath, and a big grin-]

I'm going to be getting married~!

[Carly shows the ring to the camera and everything.] I'm engaged!~ Wow!! I never thought this would happen at all~!

....

[Ahem.]

I'm inviting all of you by the way.

Oh Carly. That's wonderful.

[He sounds honestly pleased for her, though, despite everything in his own personal life.]

I should introduce you to all the people that Jack and I were talking with about wedding things with, now that they won't be getting our custom. I've got a whole list of reputable wedding people.

Oh definitely. I wasn't going to let Jack take complete control over what I thought would be my only shot at being married.

Just give me a moment and I'll send you the list--and hell, for the ones we've already put in orders with, why don't I contact them and see if I can turn those orders over to you. That way you'll save money, since Jack's already paid them, and it'll function as his wedding present in absentia.

[Andddddd... list sent!]

[He's wrong about that, okay, but in his defense, gay marriage wasn't legal all over the country yet in the brief period between escaping captivity and being scooped up by the llama god and Steven is intimately aware of having one's rights taken away, thanks Prop 8 for scarring him for life. He's much more positive about the possibility of being married now back home, even if he doubts it'll happen to him personally.]

I think with most of the ones we've paid already, ten weeks out is still enough time to make some last minute changes. And you'll be giving them extra time to work now, given that I doubt you're going to keep our date, which would have been February 15th. Or the venue, which I think we'd finally settled on as the garden of Jack's house--in winter, ugh, the things I did for love--anyway, it's in my notes, you can check it to be sure.

Well, I was in love with him and I am very stupid when I am in love. And it was deliberately the day after Valentine's, because that was already our anniversary.

Well. Anyway. I'm glad to help.

Yes, well. Again, I'm very stupid when I'm in love and thought the notion was very romantic.

I mean, the entire reason we first slept with each other--which is when I was dating our anniversary from--was that he'd had a very disappointing Valentines day, Tim had rubbed it, and I offered to go out for drinks with him to make it up to him... little knowing that he'd interpreted my friendly offer as a come-on.

So. Yeah.

But god, right, that's White Day, isn't it? We don't do that stateside, but I've watched far too much anime in my day and understand the general theory.

I've always wondered... you know how in Japan girls give things to boys on Valentines Day and boys give them back to girls on White Day? When do people like us do their romantic gifting? Is it by recipient or giver or at your own discretion.

[He's quiet for a moment before adding,]

Ah, by the way, you should tell Jolyne that the Supreme Court upheld same-sex marriage as the law of the land in 2015. It happened the month before I escaped? I just-- didn't actually find out until a few months later because I was caught up in a bunch of other bullshit or I'd have said something before I went home for a while. [Or had he? He can't remember. He knew it was legal in California again at that point, but everywhere else in the country?]

Oh shit.

[Yeah, no, let's maybe pivot away from that.]

... okay, but I do like how you think, with the whole double chocolate thing.

This feels like it should be someone's motto or a common proverb.

It is.

I feel like it us up to us to use it as frequently as possible, so that it enters the public consciousness.

We'll do it.

[Is he joking? Is he not? It's said so deadpan that it's hard to tell.]
